Two winter rallies to kickstart the 2027 Latvian Rally Championship

Rally Commission of the Latvian Automobile Federation (LAF) has approved the dates for the winter rounds of the 2027 Latvian Rally Championship. The next season will begin on January 22-23, when the first round of 2027 – rally “Alūksne” – will take place in Alūksne and its surroundings. Meanwhile, the second round of the new season – rally “Sarma” – will take place in Gulbene and its surroundings on February 5-6.

“In the midst of these various events and lately ever changing circumstances, it is a real pleasure to have the opportunity to already look into the outlines of the next season and confirm the first two rounds of the 2027 season, both of which are scheduled for winter – with the season starting with rally “Alūksne”, and continuing with rally “Sarma”.

It is no secret that organizing a rally is a very time-consuming process, which is why last year we introduced a new practice of announcing the Latvian Rally Championship calendar in two parts – first the winter rounds, which are scheduled to take place soon after the turn of the year, and then, when publishing the Season Regulations, also announcing the dates of the gravel and tarmac competitions,” begins Raimonds Strokšs, Chairman of the LAF Rally Commission.

“I look forward to the new season, which we will start with two well-established and traditions-based rallies! I am not an expert in weather forecasts, and those who pay heating bills may also disagree with me, but I wish the organizers of our winter rallies in Alūksne and Gulbene a particularly cold and snowy winter, so that we can enjoy a real winter rally festivities. Let us have a powerful start of the new 2027 season, so that with equally cool head, but high revs we can also welcome all the following rallies, which do not require studded tires,” says Raimonds Strokšs.

Taking into account the changing and unpredictable weather conditions, a reserve date has also been scheduled for both rallies – for rally “Alūksne”, it will be on the 19th-20th February, meanwhile for rally “Sarma” it will be 12th-13th February.
