Not only is the Kids’ Rally ‘Kurzeme 2013’ a cycling competition for children aged 6 to 14 years, it also offers an opportunity for the children’s family and friends to participate in the competition. The project is educational and promotes an active lifestyle. The goal of the Kids’ Rally is to bring road safety to the attention of young road users and their parents. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the joint project of the Road Traffic Safety Directorate and Fortius Marketing Project Agency. From 12:00 on Saturday, 31 August, the finals of the Kids’ Rally Kurzeme at the Old Harbour will host competitions between the winners of the qualifying rounds from five Kurzeme towns. At the Speed Festival, we will find out which bicycle rider is the fittest, most precise and most knowledgeable about traffic regulations.

The Young Driver of the Year Contest, in turn, offers a unique opportunity for young people aged 16 to 18 to prove their driving skills and knowledge of traffic safety regulations. To enter the competition, one will need to present a valid learner’s license. The competition semi-finals will take place from 12:00 to 16:00 on Saturday, 31 August, at the Liepāja Harbour Promenade. The 30 best competitors will qualify for each round of the semi-finals and will continue to compete by proving their safe driving skills. The ability to drive without posing a threat to oneself and others, as well as the ability to find solutions to non-standard situations will be the main criteria for the 2nd round competition tasks. Young people are welcome to apply for the competition by 29 August. For more information, please visit www.gadaautovaditajs.lv.
