Rally Liepāja spectator guide
Ninth round of the FIA European Rally Championship, Rally Liepāja, is set to begin today with the qualifying stage at 17:00, followed by the opening ceremony. For the next three days, the best European rally drivers will tackle the roads of Liepāja and Kuldīga regions, to show fans what they are capable of. This year’s Rally Liepāja is an important event, as we could possibly witness the crowning of both the European champion and the European Junior champion!
What? Where? When?
Thirteen stages, with a total stage distance of more than 200 kilometres, will take place on Saturday and Sunday, and will include not only roads in the countryside of Liepāja and Kuldīga regions, but also in Liepāja itself, where, next to the Great Amber concert hall, a city special stage will take place. The rally opening ceremony on Friday will also take place by the Great Amber – starting from 19:30, fans will be able to meet their favourite drivers, get their signatures on special Liepāja city cards during the autograph session, as well as have a look at the rally cars before the start. Afterwards, there will be opening speeches, start position selection for priority drivers, and the ceremonial start of the rally.
Latvians in the European Championship
In this year’s Rally Liepāja, a total of eight crews are driving with a Latvian Automobile Federation issued licence. Among them is Ralfs Sirmacis / Artūrs Šimins, who are one of the favourites to win, which they have already done twice this season. Liepāja local, Mārtiņš Sesks, will make his ERC Junior debut, and will be co-driven by the experienced Māris Kulšs. Spectators will also surely be interested in the crews of Raimonds Kisiels, Jānis Vorobjovs, Māris Neikšāns, Nikolay Gryazin, Mārtiņš Svilis, and Normunds Kokins.
Rally tickets
For those who have not bought their rally tickets yet, they are available in one of the specially made locations on the main roads leading into Priedaine (on Saturday, September 17, near Kuldīga) and Grobiņa (on Sunday, September 18, near Liepāja). We would like to remind spectators that it will only be possible to buy a single stage ticket at the entrance of the stages, so please buy the rally tickets for the whole rally beforehand.
Special stage maps, descriptions of the spectator areas (including GPS coordinates), interviews with Rally Liepāja competitors, as well as other rally related information is available in the newest issue of FHM magazine, which is available in most stores in Latvia.

During the rally, all the news from the stages will be available on radio Star FM. All the official information from the rally centre, including possible changes to the itinerary, will also be mentioned on air.
Rally reviews on TV
Eurosport operators will be closely following all the action and show a daily review (from Friday to Sunday) on their channel to an audience in 60 different countries. The reviews will also be recast in Latvian on the local TV channel TV6.
GPS data of the competitors
Rally Liepāja followers will also be able to check the exact location of their favourite drivers during the race. This will be provided by mounting a GPS transmitter in each car, which is generally used so that the rally personnel can follow what is going on in the stages. During Rally Liepāja, this signal will be publicly available, and spectators will be able to follow both the location and the current speed of their favourite drivers. The GPS map will be available on www.gps.autorally.lv.
Spectator safety
Rally Liepāja organizers and their partner LDZ Cargo would like to remind spectators to be cautious and follow the instructions of the safety marshals at the stages. We would also like to ask the more experienced spectators to assist in providing for a safe viewing of the rally – please take care of and assist the newer fans, who might be visiting their first rally. Information about places where spectators aren’t allowed is included in the safety leaflet included in each ticket kit.
