The Speed Festival will be roaring in Liepāja at the end of August

The most significant motorsport event of the summer – the Speed Festival “Rally Kurzeme 2013” is traditionally held on the last weekend of August, 30 – 31 August in Liepāja. This year is special not only because of the rally and sprint rally Latvia Championship stages, but also the Estonia Championship stage that is held in Liepāja. It means that there are going to be many participants and over 100 vehicles in the race.

The second big event of the Speed Festival 2013 is the Northern Europe Street bike Freestyle Championship where the best superbike drivers will demonstrate their tricks to decide the best one from many European countries.

The Speed Festival will be opened with a test speed stage in the evening of 29 August and the official opening of the event will be held of Friday, 30 August at 16:00. Then the rally participants will get ready for the start to accomplish seven rally stages in the Aizpute and Skrunda region on the first day of the Championships. On Friday, not only will the rally cars roar in the Speed Festival, the moto freestyle drivers will also demonstrate their performances beside the Liepāja Bus Park at 8/16 Cukura street. “Moto Freestyle Championships may be roughly described as driving with a Superbike on any of the two bike wheels and demonstrating different tricks that may sometimes violate the rules of physics to single out the best master – it is going to be a visually impressive performance,” says Uldis Hmieļevskis, the organiser of the Speed Festival “Rally Kurzeme 2013”.

The second rally day will start on Saturday, 31 August on Liepaja Port promenade at 10:00. On the final day of the Speed Festival the visitors are invited to attend six rally gravel stages in the Nīca and Rucava district and in the Aizpute and Durbe district. The Northern Europe Street bike Freestyle Championship will also be taking place all day in the square beside the Liepāja Bus Park.

Liepāja Port promenade will be busy with the “Children’s Rally Kurzeme” competition final and the semi-final of the competition “The Best New Driver of the Year”. In the evening the visitors will be entertained by demonstrations of Liepāja moto sport drivers and the StuntFighters stunt man. Upon finishing the rally city stage the award ceremony will start and the Rally Rock Festival will begin at night. “The Speed Festival “Rally Kurzeme 2013” will be a combination of different moto sport competitions, entertainment and cultural events held in one place,” informs Uldis Hmieļevskis.
