Rallysprint “Vidzeme” was planned as a one-day event – with administrative checks, scrutineering, and recce on Saturday morning, followed by two unique special stages in the afternoon (each of which the crews would have to complete twice), and prize giving ceremony to round the day.
“When we started organizing the rallysprint “Vidzeme”, we decided to follow a new, innovative path. However, already when taking the early steps, we unexpectedly encountered various complications – weather-related road conditions in the spring thaw, restrictions that must be observed when organizing special stages in the territory of a nature micro-reserve, or significant road construction works on the route of the rallysprint,” says Jānis Krastiņš, the organizer of the rally sprint “Vidzeme”, about the challenges during the organization of the competition.
“We looked for various solutions so that the competition could take place – we changed the date and expanded the geography of the special stages. However, it must be said that external factors have played too big a role this time. If initially it seemed that there could still be a “window” for the competition to be run in the fall, then today we must admit, in order not to lose the meaning and essence of the planned competition, that all possibilities have been exhausted here too. Unfortunately, this also means that we have to announce the cancellation of the planned rallysprint “Vidzeme,” says Jānis Krastiņš.

However, we will still see the rallysprint gravel special stages this autumn season. We will encounter them not only on this weekend, when the rally “Cēsis” will take place on September 19-20, but also on October 26, when the rallysprint “Latvija” will take place. The competition organizer Jānis Krastiņš continues: “Although it is not possible for us to organize a full-fledged gravel rallysprint “Vidzeme” this year, we have made some progress that we would not want to lose completely. Therefore, we decided to make changes to the route of the rallysprint “Latvija”, which in recent years has been held only on asphalt roads. As a result, the route of the rallysprint “Latvija” will also include gravel special stages, extending the total distance of the competition to approximately 90 kilometres. This means that an increased point coefficient of 1.5 will be applied to the final round of the Rallysprint Cup and Historic Car Rally Cup, ensuring an exciting finish to the 2025 season!”
